Chennai the metropolitan city of India has well equipped and well designed stadiums for every sports activity. Following are the major stadiums for different sports located in Chennai.

Atheletics: Jawaharlal Nehru Stadium
With the sitting capacity of almost 40,000 spectators this stadium is mostly used for organizing football and athletic competitions. An indoor stadium is also located in the campus with the sitting capacity of nearly 8000 spectators. This stadium is used for the competitions of volleyball, basket ball, table tennis etc.

Cricket: M. A. Chidambaram Stadium
Commonly called as Cheapuk Stadium. This stadium is named after M.A. Chidambaram. The stadium is mainly used for organizing both national and international cricket matches. Stadium has the sitting capacity of almost 50,000 spectators. The first cricket match in the stadium was played on February 10, 1934.

Hockey: Mayor Radhakrishnan Stadium
This stadium is used for hosting the hockey competitions of national and international level. With the sitting capacity of 4,000 spectators, the stadium has proudly hosted the Champions Trophy for two times once in 1996 and next in 2005.

Tennis: SDAT Tennis Stadium
Also famous as Nungambakkam Tennis Stadium. Stadium has the sitting capacity of  5,800 spectators and is meant for organizing tennis matches.
