Chennai the capital of Tamil Nadu and is one of the most developed city of India. Chennai is one of those cities which are blessed with the well developed transport facilities by all means of transport i.e., roadways, railways, airways and seaways. The city sets an illustration for other developing cities in providing better transport amenities to its citizens.
With an increase in population the geographical boundaries of the city also expanded. As a result Chennai is divided into five parts namely Central Chennai, South Chennai, West Chennai, North Chennai and Chennai around. Providing better transport facilities to the people residing in these areas was considered as one of the prime responsibility of the government. Metropolitan Transport Corporation Chennai, Limited, is the supreme authority providing the better transport facilities to the people living in different parts of Chennai at reasonable prices and within appropriate time.
Apart from this looking after the need of people living in the outskirt areas the government has proposed to start the Metro Train from August 2011. At present the Metro Train Project in under progress.
The hierarchy for better transport facility rises with an improvement in the earning capacity of different groups of population depending upon their requirement and situation. When the person goes alone he can use different means of transportation i.e. buses and metro, but when he goes out with family it is not possible for all to go in buses and at that time he needs the feel of transport which can provide his family a comfort traveling and make them feel like home. Thus, the city also has good number of private cab operators who provide taxi on demand to the people at particular destination and that also on time.
Hence is can be said that a person who visits Chennai, does not have to worry for moving from place to another. As he can find different means of transport at his doorstep.
