A Member of the Legislature (ML) or a Member of the Legislative Assembly (MLA), is a representative elected by the voters of a constituency to the legislative assembly of a sub-national jurisdiction whereas a MP (Member of Parliament) is the representative of the voters to a parliament.
In many countries where they have bicameral parliaments, this category includes members of the lower house, this is because the upper houses often have a different titles just as the 'senate', and so they also have different titles for its members, just as 'senator'.
