Wildlife Sanctuaries and Zoos in Chennai
Zoos and wildlife sanctuaries are nowadays a great source of entertainment as well as learning. Chennai is home to some of the famous zoological parks in the country.
They are reserved areas, run by non-profit organization with the sole purpose of providing conservation to wild species and their habitats. These wildlife parks attract millions of visitors yearly, they come to see the interesting animals and also for educational opportunities.
Arignar Anna Zoological Park
Arignar Anna Zoological Park is one of the largest and scientifically managed zoos of the country.- Location: Vandalur, Chennai, Tamil Nadu - 600048

Vandalur Zoo
The Vandalur Zoo is located in Vandalur around 32 kms towards the southwestern part of Chennai. The zoo provides battery-operated cars, diesel-run road rails, rental bicycles and long tree-lined paved walkways for its numerous visitors. The zoo is well-maintained, neat and spacious and a worthy tourist location.
Guindy National Park
This is another national park located at the heart of the city. It is home of different species of deer and an exotic range of birds and snakes.- Location: 259, Anna Salai, DMS Compound, IV Floor, Teynampet, Chennai, Tamil Nadu, India- 600006

Guindy Snake Park
The Guindy Snake Park, it is located within the Guindy National Park campus and next to the Children's Park. The park is home to wide species of snakes such as pythons, vipers, cobras and other reptiles. Also, like the Arignar Anna Zoological Park, there are provisions for captive breeding of endangered species of snakes and crocodiles out here.
They interpret the process of venom extraction and give demo on the local snake stuffs. The show timings are at 10.00 AM, 1PM, 3 PM and 4.30 PM every day.
Madras Crocodile Bank
It is located around 40 kms from Chennai. This major crocodile breeding center has now turned into a holiday entertainer for the people in Chennai.
Along with crocodile breeding, it also has provisions for snake breeding and venom extraction facilities. The CrocoBank runs a captive breeding program for the rare species of snakes, turtles and reptiles.
